Should I Go to Urgent Care for My Injury?

Should I Go to Urgent Care for My Injury?

Everybody has a scratch, cut, welt, scrape, or tweak at some point. In many cases, these are minor injuries, and you mend them and go on with your day. But sometimes, damage to your body is more than just something you brush off. With 3.5 million sports injuries among children each year and 2.8 million related to work, getting medical help is sometimes necessary.

Even if you haven’t been hurt at sports or work, there are several different ways you can suffer from bodily harm, such as car accidents, falls, and more. Regardless of how it happens, if you’re injured and looking for medical help, when is urgent care the best course of action? Let’s look at this closer by examining what urgent care is, how it differs from a trip to the emergency room (ER), and what injuries are treatable.

If you live in the Orangevale or Rancho Cordova, California, area and are struggling with an injury that needs medical attention, Dr. Andrew Nangalama and the dedicated staff at American River Urgent Care can help.

What is urgent care?

This is the term for walk-in care centers that focus on the immediate treatment of short-term (acute) or longer-lasting (chronic) medical issues. They offer services for longer hours than doctor’s offices, and the wait time for treatment is often quicker than other medical facilities. You don’t need to contact your primary healthcare physician to get help from urgent care, and once you’ve been treated, you may need to make an appointment to go over what happened or seek further treatment if necessary.

How is it different from the ER?

ERs are commonly departments of hospital centers, and if you're dealing with a life-threatening problem, they are better suited for offering triage care while deciding if you need to be observed overnight or otherwise kept in a room for screenings or further care. While both facilities handle conditions that must be treated quickly, urgent care is the solution for non-emergency illnesses and injuries. If a problem is determined to be an emergency, you may need to be taken to an ER to receive further treatment.

What injuries do they treat?

When it comes to urgent care treatment, this is what we have to offer:

Injuries

We can help with many types of injuries, including sprains, strains, cuts, bruises, dislocations, and fractures. Whether you’ve just had a spill or suffered from the same problem for an extended period, we’re here to treat you.

Diseases

We can help you with bacterial, fungal, or viral infections, such as the cold, flu, strep throat, and COVID-19, as well as urinary tract infections, rashes, and symptoms of other conditions.

Screenings

If we need more information about what is causing your symptoms, we can perform various tests, such as blood work, urine samples, vision tests, and X-rays, to confirm any internal injuries.

Vaccinations

Medicine for tuberculosis, hepatitis, varicella, and other illnesses is available, as are vaccines for the flu and tetanus.

Physicals

You can get your physicals here for pre-employment and new-hire situations.

We will soon be able to help you with other services, such as breath alcohol testing, audio testing, pulmonary function testing, and ensuring that you’re safe to travel.

If you can’t manage an injury at home, and it isn’t an emergency, urgent care is the optimal way to get your needed help. If you’re dealing with this kind of problem, contact the American River Urgent Care team today.
