Physical Exams Q & A

What types of physical exams are offered?

American River Urgent Care offers many types of physical exams with convenient walk-in hours every day of the week. The team performs annual physicals for:

  • Men
  • Women
  • Children
  • Seniors
  • School
  • Camp
  • Sports activities
  • Pre-employment

A regular physical examination helps to ensure you and your loved ones remain as healthy as possible.

What are sports physicals?

Children wishing to participate in school-sponsored sports are usually required to undergo a comprehensive physical exam before their participation. The exam ensures your child is healthy enough to play their chosen game.

Sports physicals are typically required for student-athletes for all disciplines including, but not limited to:

  • Football
  • Baseball
  • Lacrosse
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Wrestling
  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Swimming
  • Cross country and track

Playing sports at school is an excellent way for your child to stay active, make friends, and enrich their lives outside of the classroom. The team at American River Urgent Care makes sure your young athlete is ready to participate fully — so they remain safe during the sports season and over their lifetime.

What happens in a sports physical?

The physical includes several different components, depending on your child’s age and other factors. However, expect your provider to do the following for every sports physical:

  • Take a medical history
  • Measure your child’s height and weight
  • Checking your child’s eyes, lungs, and heart
  • Review your child’s vaccination history

Your provider may recommend any required immunizations as outlined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They may also perform other tests as necessary.

What should I bring to my child’s sports physical appointment?

Sports physicals often require you to submit a form certifying that your child has been examined and cleared by a medical professional. If you have this form, your provider at American River Urgent Care can complete it as necessary.

Bringing the form with you helps the entire process runs as smoothly as possible, so your child isn’t kept off the field because of missing paperwork. If your child is cleared for sports, the team at American River Urgent Care is happy to supply proof of your child’s examination for their school.

If it’s time for an annual physical, sports physical, or another physical, American River Urgent Care is open seven days a week for your convenience. Call today, or visit the clinic.
